page 14 of the scan

Four-panel cartoon strip: an advertising man pitches a bread-and-chocolates campaign with the slogan "Bread and Roses!"; a woman watching it on television reaches for the Valium.
Cormac, "Bad Taste" (unnumbered), Socialist Challenge no. 51, 22 June 1978, page 14. From the Marxists Internet Archive scan.

The strip, panel by panel

1. BAD TASTE by Cormac. (An ad man with a huge grin, before a board marked "AT", pitches to a cigar-smoking boss.) "A great new campaign, J.R.! It combines the Mother's Pride account with the Cadbury's account."

2. "Specially directed at the ladies (bless 'em!) — a free box of chocolates with every loaf .... and the slogan ...??"

3. (The grin, with a balloon:) "BREAD AND ROSES!"

4. (A woman watches the advertisement on television; the set says [illegible].) She thinks: "There are days when I find Valium totally inadequate."
